Tulsa update:

Last nights local news stations reported that the
Tulsa million moms are distancing themselves from the
national group.
“Not all [mmm] marches are for tougher gun
laws…[Tulsa mmm group is] not about promoting strict
gun laws in Tulsa”.

Dr. Jan Finer (Tulsa mmm organizer)”We are not against

DA highlights goals of Sunday gun safety march

The goal of the local “Million Mom March” on Mother’s
Day is one that no one should oppose, District
Attorney Tim Harris said Wednesday.

“Preventing death and injury by educating Oklahomans
about the need for gun safety . . . Who on earth can
argue with that mission statement?” Harris asked.

Still, as the march, sponsored by Oklahomans for Gun
Safety, begins at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a countermarch
will be winding down two miles away.

Harris said people need to understand that the local
gun safety march differs from the national version
held in Washington, D.C. on the same day.

“This is not about licensing or registration,” he
said. “That’s where we part ways from the national
march. Our single issue is gun safety, and that’s why
I support this.”

.

That rally opposes any effort to lessen gun ownership
rights.

Jan Finer, an organizer of the Tulsa’s Million Mom
March, said the two groups have a lot in common, which
is why the local agenda focuses on safety, rather than
gun control.

“We are not against the Second Amendment,” she said.
“Obviously we live in a pro-gun state and feelings run
deep. We respect our gun owners.”
