My Doctor Actually Asked….

March 1st, 2012

I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. I made a doctor’s appointment, and they said they had new forms and needed me to fill them out. I had them fax the forms to me, and got busy working on them……

Halfway down the last page, there were some “lifestyle” questions. Do I wear my seatbelt? Do I speed? Do I have poisons locked away? and…..Do I have guns in the home?

Now aside from the fact that I am offended by their tactic of lumping gun ownership in with “high-risk” behaviors, I also find this to be a serious invasion of privacy. When I called to ask them what the heck they were asking these questions for, I got no answers. One girl said “Just don’t answer it if it bothers you so much.” Another said it was some kind of survey. Survey?

So, my appointment is this evening. It may be my last appointment with this doctor. Anyone got any suggestions for adressing this with the doctor when I arrive?
