New Glocks
In a related development, ABCNEWS has learned the gun manufacturer Glock
will use the same technology starting in April, to build its own
voluntary database using the shell casings from newly manufactured guns.
The gunmaker will use a laser scanner to get the markings and put them
in a database so if the gun is used in any crime in the future, whether
or not that gun is recovered, law enforcement officials will be able to
use the shell casings to trace the gun to the original owner and
possibly subsequent owners, and to the place where it was purchased.
Other gun manufacturers are looking into following suit. One source says
the move is largely because the large-scale class-action lawsuits
brought by cities and counties against the companies that are on the
horizon.
