Jennifer Aniston Goes Hollywood!
October 08, 2002
Sparking the beginning of the awards season, JENNIFER ANISTON and TOM
HANKS were the big winners at the 6th Annual Hollywood Movie Awards –
and ET was there!
In a gala ceremony hosted by our own JANN CARL and MARK STEINES at the
Beverly Hilton Hotel, Jennifer (‘The Good Girl’) and Tom (‘Road to
Perdition’) received the Best Actress and Actor of the Year awards,
which are voted on by the public, while ‘Minority Report’ picked up
the award for Best Film. Jennifer accepted the award without husband
BRAD PITT by her side. “He’s actually back home with his parents for
their anniversary,” she told our MARIA MENOUNOS.

‘Panic Room’ star JODIE FOSTER also took home one of the festival’s
most distinguished honors for an extraordinary acting career that has
spanned more than 30 years. The two-time Oscar winner received the
festival’s Hollywood Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award. “It’s
exciting for me because I come from Hollywood,” Jodie explained, “I
actually, physically come from Hollywood!”
LUCY LIU, DREW BARRYMORE, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, DANNY DeVITO and
CAMERON DIAZ were among the stars presenting the night’s awards, which
celebrate excellence in filmmaking.
Director MARTIN SCORSESE, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate JODY WILLIAMS,
MPAA president JACK VALENTI and composer MARC SHAIMAN were among the
other honorees who were applauded at the star-studded ceremony.

The film festival opened last week with the world premiere of ‘The
Ring,’ a psychological thriller starring NAOMI WATTS. The ‘Mulholland
Drive’ star will also be honored with the festival’s Hollywood
Breakthrough Acting Award, while ‘Charlie’s Angels’ director McG (who
is currently underway on the film’s sequel) will take home the
Hollywood Breakthrough Directing Award for his angelic feature debut.
On Oct. 3, Matt Damon and DANNY GLOVER hosted a benefit screening of
‘My Khmer Heart,’ a film that received the 2000 HFF Discovery Award
for Best Documentary. The event, which was held at the Directors Guild
of America, will benefit Cambodian orphans.
While the HFF Discovery Award winners are carefully chosen by a panel
of veteran filmmakers, the public has helped decide who will take home
the festival’s top honors for Hollywood Movie of the Year, Hollywood
Actor of the Year and Hollywood Actress of the Year. Last year, the
general public voted on the year’s best films and lavished kudos on
BAZ LUHRMANN’s vibrant and inventive film, ‘Moulin Rouge.’ The
spectacular musical was voted Hollywood Movie of the Year, while EWAN
McGREGOR and NICOLE KIDMAN took home the acting honors.
