Robbers Targeting ATM Customers
Two communities 30 miles apart are experiencing problems with the same dangerous crime as unsuspecting people are being robbed seconds after getting money out of an ATM.
In Roseville, police are looking for two men in connection with a robbery outside the Union Bank on Douglas Boulevard. And in the Pocket Area of Sacramento, police are still searching for suspects in a crime that’s making some people think twice before getting out of their cars to get cash.
There have been 10 ATM robberies in the last month. This past weekend, a couple was robbed at a Wells Fargo ATM in Greenhaven, and late Friday night, $300 was taken from a man at a Bank of America ATM.
“People are going to the ATM more. They’re out and about more. There going shopping, going to parties and things like that,” Sacramento Police Sgt. Daniel Hahn said.
According to authorities, the robbers hide behind trees and bushes until you take the money from the ATM. Then they walk up and put a gun in your face.
“These are particularly disturbing because they have guns with them. And anytime there are guns involved, you never know what could happen,” Hahn said.
Officials said that the suspects are two African-American males that are 17 to 19 years old. One might be wearing a scarf.
Police said that if you are using an ATM at night alone, you should watch your back. You may also want to go to indoor ATMs.
