Police report for July 23
A Sparks nightclub owner used a knife and gun to fend off a maintenance
man suspected of attacking her, police said Tuesday.
Karen Carvajal, owner of the Oasis nightclub on Victorian Avenue,
suffered minor injuries to her face and arms in the skirmish about 10
p.m. Monday, Sparks police Sgt. Chad Hawkins said in a statement.
Carvajal said the maintenance man attacked her after she complained
about the quality of repairs he was making in the club, which was
closed. The man punched and slapped the woman in the face and knocked
her to the ground, according to police.
The club owner grabbed a knife and swung it at the man, possibly cutting
one of his arms.
When the man continued his attack, the woman took a handgun from her
purse and fired a warning shot. The woman, who has a concealed weapon
permit, did not believe her shot struck the man, who fled.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sparks police dispatch at
353-2231 or detectives at 353-2225.
