Homeowner Helps Chase Alleged Robbery Suspects
Pair In Custody
UPDATED: 11:29 a.m. EST February 6, 2003
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police have two men in custody after they allegedly
attempted to rob a man, were chased, and crashed into a gas line early
Thursday morning.
Homeowner Eric Webster said that he was taking his dog outside when he
was approached and threatened by two armed men.
Webster told police that he went inside his home in the 3700 block of
Westerville Road home and grabbed his gun, NewsChannel 4′s Beth Dal
Ponte reported.
Webster told police that he and a friend hopped into a car and chased
the suspects for several blocks.
Police told Dal Ponte that the suspects eventually crashed their car
into a gas line near a mobile home park near Hudson Avenue and fled on
foot.
Police eventually caught up with the pair.
Officers later found a black bag near the mobile home park, which
contained several guns, a bulletproof vest and some nylon ties that are
reportedly used for handcuffs.
One of the suspects was wearing a bulletproof vest and a gun holster.
Police said that they were checking whether the discovery of the black
bag was related to the pair.
Webster told police that the suspected pair attempted to rob him in
October, Dal Ponte reported.
“I paid attention because I knew there would be a day when I would see
them again,” Webster said. “They didn’t get lucky this time. We got
lucky.”
The suspects are expected to be charged with aggravated menacing but
they could face several serious charges.
