TWO YEARS FOR SHOOTING SPREE

——————————————————————————–

A Fox Creek man has been sentenced to two years behind bars after a January shooting
spree on a rural acreage near Whitecourt.

On Jan. 5, Whitecourt RCMP were called to an acreage after shots were fired at two
men. Mounties said the shooter and one of the intended targets knew each other.

Later that day, Leo Gerard MacKenzie, 32, of Fox Creek, was arrested and charged
with two counts of attempted murder. He’s been in custody ever since, Mounties said.

MacKenzie pleaded guilty yesterday in Whitecourt provincial court to one count of
assault with a weapon.

He was sentenced to two years, less a day, Mounties said yesterday, and will be
on two-year’s probation once released. He’s also been been ordered to surrender
DNA samples and received a lifetime ban on possessing firearms.
