Anti-Gun Ballot Initiative Moving

Anti-gun Senator Ginny Burdick (D-6) 503-244-1444 is at it again.

Obviously not pleased with the outpouring of pro-gun opinion
generated this past legislative session against anti-gun bills SB
700 and House compromise HB 2535, she has decided to attack your
rights from a different angle, a ballot initiative (actually this
alert deals with the first of two). The initiative has been
submitted to the state already.

Burdick’s “Gun Violence Prevention Act” has been tentatively titled
as follows:

“Eliminates Nondealer, Nonhandgun Exemptions To Pretransfer
Background-Check Requirement.”

GOA has been informed that much of the same language as HB 2525 is
contained in Burdick’s proposal.

At this point in the process, pro-gun activists can take exception
with the above title in writing. All those with complaints on
record will have legal standing to challenge the final title in
court. This can help slow down Burdick’s anti-gun machinery during
the petition and signature gathering stage.

What to DO:
* Send a letter to the Secretary of State at:
Oregon Secretary of State
Room 141 State Capitol
Salem OR 97310
Attn: Elections

What to SAY:
* The point here is to make the SecState aware that you
disapprove of this misleading title. One example would be that this
title does not explain that police will be empowered to retain
records of gun show firearm transfers. Another point of contention
might be that there are, as far as we know at this point, many other
provisions within the initiative that this title does not cover.
You might even take exception with the language itself as legalistic
and unclear.

When to ACT:
* We only have until the 25th of November TO BE ON FILE,
so please send your comments in as soon as you can, as only letters
received on or before the 25th will count.

Once again– only you can save your 2nd Amendment rights!!
