Dear Tennessee Friend of the Second Amendment:
Memphis Councilman Brent Taylor has kicked off a major pro-Second
Amendment initiative.
Taylor was the only member of the Memphis Council to oppose a gun
buyback program kicked off on Sunday, Mother’s Day.
The day before, Taylor held his own news conference with two of the
major firearms trainers of Memphis, Mr. Tom Givens of Rangemaster
(the largest trainer in the state of Tennessee) and Mr. O. W.
Winsett of Whitten Arms.
The anti-self defense forces are attacking on many fronts to get
guns away from those who might use them in self-defense. Few
believe that criminals will be handing in their guns (unless they do
not work) during a buyback program.
Gun Owners of America wants to encourage potential victims to have
guns, particularly those who live in center city areas and may be
too financially hard pressed to buy a gun, take the training
required for a Tennessee concealed carry permit and pay the permit
fees.
To encourage an increase in the size of the lawful, armed population
on the streets, GOA has launched its Safe Streets and Cities Fund.
Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee are serving as the pilot
project for what is hoped will be a greatly expanded program.
Upon receipt of a CCW permit and the receipt for payment of a CCW
training class, GOA will reimburse the permit holder up to $50 for
training expenses.
If you know someone living in Memphis or Shelby County, please let
them know of this program, particularly if they do not already have
a CCW.
And you can help financially, too.
One way GOA will know if it can take the program to other cities
will be the kind of financial response our members. Will you send
GOA a check for $25, $50 or more? If you can, please put on the
memo line: Safe Streets and Cities Fund. Or, contribute online at
http://www.gunowners.org in the Membership section.
I hope you will support this Fund. It gives gun owners a chance to
have an effective outreach into the center city. This in turn can
enable us to build a constituency that could quiet the anti-gun
extremism of many center-city politicians.
Please help GOA put feet on a positive way to combat the deceptive,
but impossible plea to “get the guns out the wrong hands.” Here is
a chance to put guns in the right hands.
Sincerely,
Larry Pratt
Executive Director
P.S. I hope you will send a contribution to the Safe Streets and
Cities Fund so GOA can tell the national media that our members
believe in helping put guns in the right hands.
You can also donate by telephone using a major credit card by
calling 1-703-321-8585 or online at http://www.gunowners.org in the
Membership section.
