Police Search for Suspect in Attempted Rape
Forest Acres Police need your help finding the man they say attempted the brazen, daylight sexual assault of an unsuspecting young woman.
Back on March 15th, what began as a routine shopping trip to Richland Mall, quickly became a terrifying fight for one young woman.
“She was just coming to shop about 5:30 in the afternoon,” says Forest Acres Sergeant Bryant Hinson.
The victim pulled into the mall at the Beltline Boulevard entrance.
After parking her car, the young woman was grabbed by the suspect, dragged to his car and thrown inside.
“After attempting this assault, the gentleman pushed her out of her vehicle and fled from the 2nd level of the garage,” says Hinson.
Shaken and scared, the victim was able to give police a good enough description to create a composite sketch… good news since investigators have little physical evidence and no similar crimes to go on.
“Nobody’s had anything similar so I don’t know if he’s from this area. I think it’s hard to say, that’s why we want to get it out to the general public,” says Hinson. “and this isn’t something that happens very often.”
But investigators aren’t discounting another attempt.
“It [happened] in the middle of the day,” says Hinson. “He didn’t appear scared as it was put to us so we have no reason to think he wouldn’t attempt it again.”
Again, police were able to come up with a composite sketch from the victim’s description. Officers say he stands about six feet tall with an average build.
The suspect has short, spiky brown hair and was last seen driving away in a white four-door car, similar to a Buick LeSabre.
