Defending the Second Amendment

Congratulations on maintaining such a helpful site on the topic of our Second Amendment rights.

I’ve entered the race for the US House of Representatives seat in the 2nd Congressional District. I’ve been active within the Republican Liberty Caucus promoting our freedoms within the Republican Party – including the right to bear arms. However, in an effort to promote our rights in an even greater capacity, I accepted the nomination to run on the Libertarian Party ticket.

I’ve been an NRA member intermittently since the late ’80s and support the NRA?s goals of the NRA for the most part; we disagree on some issues such as the abolishment of the BATF. Unlike other candidates, I’m willing to put my stand on the issues in writing for the public to view and hold me accountable at http://www.adkinsforcongress.com/issues-gunlaws.htm.

According to VoteSmart.org, my Democratic opponent, Bob Etheridge, was given a rating of a “F” by the NRA on pro-gun rights policies in the most recent analysis of voting records; In 2007, Gun Owners of America also gave Representative Etheridge an “F” rating.

My Republican challenger, Dan Mansell, does not address the Right to Keep and Bear Arms on his campaign site at http://www.danmansell.com/policies.htm and refuses to respond to VoteSmart.org’s requests for his position on the issues (http://votesmart.org/npat.php?can_id=20994).

While I’m seeking to depose this well-funded Democratic incumbent and block my non-committal Republican rival, I can’t do this alone and am looking for your support.

* This is a newly-launched grassroots campaign is competing with an incumbent, anti-gun representative sitting upon a warchest of nearly $1 million; any support you can offer will help.

* I’m seeking either an outright endorsement or, at a minimum, an endorsement of my positions on the Right to Bear Arms.

* I would request that you use your connections with local gun rights supporters to inform them of my candidacy and positions; or optionally, grant a one-time use of the email address of local supporters to reach out to them directly.

* I am seeking any suggestions on how to promote 2nd amendment rights and gather the support of those that feel the same.

I know this is a lot to ask, but it would go a long way to making a much needed change – replacing Bob Etheridge and adding a voice in the US House to oppose McCain and Obama’s anti-gun stance. Your consideration is appreciated.

Thank you much!

In Liberty,

-Will
