The real issue.

March 1st, 2012

I wish to reiterate a point I’ve made before. I’ve read & listened to both sides of the debate but cannot compromise on the real issue, which is, “Can we allow the government or any one else to illegally change the Constitution?”

This is where the gun control lobby has crossed the lines. Granted, MADD got it right by going after the “drivers” rather than the vehicles, which is backwards to the efforts by gun control advocates, but in addition Gun Control advocates should pursue a legal amendment to the Constitution rather than by illegal legislation. If the second amendment were modified by a duly ratified change, then & only then could I obey it without hesitation. Without a legal change to the Constitution, I cannot honor a law that is in direct violation of our nation’s founding document, which, according to the majority of law
interpretations, does mean the 2nd amendment applies to individual citizens having the right to own & carry firearms.

If you think registration, permits, control of who buys what & when in the issue of guns & honest individual citizens is allowed by the Constitution, then you also permit those same restrictions to free speech, right of assembly, freedom of the press, & the right to choose your own religion, etc. If the 2nd amendment means registration is legal, then reporters should also have to register with the government & get approval from same before publishing a story they write. Pastors would have to have government approval before they could preach on certain aspects of the bible, or even “outlaw” by general consensus, any religion not favored by our government. You could be thrown in jail for
speaking out against certain politicians, or saying anything controversial in a public or a private forum. This is a far more dangerous & slippery slope than gun owners ever were.

We fought a war over 200 years ago to change the restrictions to our rights, & many paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Now these people’s sacrifices are in vain? Do you not remember history? Do you not understand that it was firearm confiscation that actually BEGAN the American Revolution? Do people think that gun confiscation would not trigger a new revolution? Can we sue city police forces for not protecting us if we don’t have a gun? Can we not see how dangerous it is to illegally change the Constitution?

If we fail to honor the Constitution, the ultimate price may be higher than we can imagine.
