10-year-old boy critically injured in accidental shooting
DALE CITY, Va. (AP) –
A 10-year-old Dale City boy suffered critical injuries Thursday when his
teen-age brother accidentally shot him in the face.
The boys retrieved a revolver from under their parents’ bed after the
parents left the home for doctors’ appointments, Prince William County
Police spokesman Dennis Mangan said.
The gun had a combination trigger lock and was not loaded, but the boys
either knew the combination or the lock was already placed on the
correct setting, Mangan said.
The 13-year-old brother loaded and unloaded the gun, then realized he
left one bullet in by mistake. As he tried to remove the last bullet,
the gun accidentally went off and the the 10-year-old boy was shot in
the face, Mangan said.
He was listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Washington
early Friday.
The boys have not been identified. Mangan said it was unlikely the
parents would face criminal charges.
