Two plead guilty in robbery try
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Two North Las Vegas men pleaded guilty Thursday in connection with the
attempted robbery of two off-duty Las Vegas police officers.
Chester Johnson and Antonio Mitchell, also known as Taro Mitchell,
pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
They will be sentenced July 5 by District Judge Valorie Vega. The
charges carry a possible sentence of one to 16 years in prison.
The two men were charged in a November incident at the North Las Vegas
home of a Las Vegas police officer. Police said two off-duty officers
were playing pool in the garage when two men tried to rob them.
Police said one of the robbers placed a gun to an officer’s head, and
the two started to struggle. The other officer then pulled a weapon and
fired several shots, striking both of the robbers.
Johnson was arrested at the scene, and Mitchell was arrested when he
sought medical treatment at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the
arm.
Officers Jim Boubon and Michael Springer were not injured in the
incident. A police Use of Force Board ruled that Boubon acted in
self-defense and was justified in shooting the two men.
