Dear Virginia Gun Rights Supporter:

Without pressure from pro-gun Virginians like you, it is possible
that Governor Gilmore will appoint an anti-gun Superintendent to head
the Virginia State Police.

On January 13, current Superintendent Colonel M. Wayne Huggins
announced his resignation, effective January 28, 2000. Col. Huggins
has been an outspoken proponent of gun control and supported a
so-called “assault weapons” ban back in the late 1980s. Governor
Allen appointed him as Virginia’s State Police Superintendent in
1994.

The Superintendent of the State Police serves as the chief executive
officer of the Department. To aid in safeguarding the rights of
Virginia gun owners, it is necessary that a solid, pro-gun individual
be appointed to take Col. Huggins’ place.

It is very important that you and I contact Governor Gilmore’s office
today and tell him that Virginia gun owners want a pro-gun
Superintendent of State Police. You and I also need to contact Bryan
Slater, Secretary of Administration and Boyd Marcus, Jr., the
Governor’s Chief of Staff. These men will be key players in Governor
Gilmore’s decision.

Please consider taking action today on the following items:

1. FIRST, PRINT OUT AND SEND THE ATTACHED MESSAGES (or better yet,
send a personal letter or fax) to the Governor, the Chief of Staff
and the Secretary of Administration (contact info provided).

2. AFTER YOU HAVE WRITTEN, FAXED, OR E-MAILED (WHERE APPLICABLE),
CALL THEIR OFFICES and tell them you expect the next Superintendent
of State Police to be pro-gun.

3. PLEASE SEND THIS ALERT TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND ASK THEM TO
TAKE ACTION, TOO.

Let’s send a strong message to Governor Gilmore that Virginia gun
owners will not tolerate anti-gun legislation or anti-gun
gubenatorial appointments.

Sincerely,

Dennis Fusaro
Director of State Legislation

Dear Governor Gilmore,

Firearms are used for lawful self-defense over 2 MILLION times a year
in our country. Of this number, 200,000 cases are by women defending
themselves against sexual abuse. In consideration of these facts and
others, Virginians deserve to have law enforcement officials who are
committed to protecting citizens’ inalienble right to keep and bear
arms.

In light of Col. Huggins’ recent resignation, I urge you to only
appoint a pro-gun successor to the office of Secretary of State
Police. Virginia’s next chief executive officer of the State Police
should be committed to protecting my right to defend myself.

Please respond and let me know what you will do.
