While Rosie may be the “butt” of your posts,
(that’s a joke, chill, ok?) you have made some credible observations. Now before you all get ready to blast me … consider this: Rosie O’Donnell is a CELEBRITY. As such, she has a powerful position. You might even compare her to Mr Heston and other STARS who speak publicly for their support, i.e., “I am the NRA.” And, the bigger the celebrity (no pun intended), the more “we” become “starfu—-s” and the suckers of the marketing world. Unfortunately, we ALL buy into it: if so-and-so says it’s cool to use Crest, well, by jiminy, we’ll all go out and buy Crest. Doesn’t make any difference what the product is: if it is endorsed by a CELEBRITY; well … people respond. We create the monsters, then we blame them! The best example I can think of is white Ford Broncos. Right after Mr. Football Simpson took his little trip on the LA freeway, white Broncos sold like crazy! Uh, duh??? Perhaps we (“normals”) want to capture a piece of that “celebrity.” That’s simply a hypothesis; or we have become so desensitized to our own “choices” that we no longer have the ability to determine what they really are. So, we defer to the “stars” and allow them to set the pace. Me, personally? Well, I think both Rosie and Mr. Heston have overstepped; I’d prefer to have the “fight” back in the hands of the “normals.”
