Law and Order: Police investigate apparent HATE CRIME in St. Charles County

LAKE SHERWOOD, Mo. (AP) — Police and the Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing Opportunity Council were investigating an apparent hate crime at a home in the eastern Missouri town Lake Sherwood, authorities said Friday.

Resident Sheryl Proctor returned home Thursday night to find a racial slur spray-painted on the side of the house. On the deck there was a spray-painted outline of a body with a splash of red paint on the ground.

The housing council said Proctor has had problems in the past with some neighbors and with a homeowners association. Proctor is white but her biracial niece lives with her and her biracial son often visits.
